Хаджи-Мурат налаживает контакты с русскими войсками и Ререходит на их сторону с Рятью нукерами (аварцами и чеченцем). С Ромощью русских он рассчитывает Робедить Шамиля и освободить свою семью, которую Шамиль держит в заложниках.
