תחנת הרדיו גלגלצ הוקמה באוקטובר 1993, ביוזמת שר הביטחון דאז, יצחק רבין ז"ל ושר התחבורה דאז, ישראל קיסר ובתמיכת הרמטכ"ל דאז, רא"ל אהוד ברק, כרשת רדיו הפונה לנהגים; מטרתה - הגברת המודעות לבטיחות בדרכים.
גלגלצ מתפקדת כחלק מגלי צה"ל בכל הקשור למערך הלוגיסטי והטכני, אולם מאופיינת כתחנה נפרדת, נוספת על גלי צה"ל, הפונה לקהל יעד שונה. גלגלצ הייתה התחנה הראשונה בישראל שהגדירה עצמה כרדיו תנועה והדגישה את נושא דיווחי התנועה והמלחמה בתאונות הדרכים. על-פי מדגמים וסקרים שמבוצעים (בין היתר ע"י הרשות השנייה לטלוויזיה ורדיו ו-TGI) עולה כי גלגלצ היא תחנת הרדיו המואזנת במדינה.
את גלגלצ ניתן לקלוט ברחבי המדינה בתדרים הבאים: FM 91.8 במרכז הארץ; FM 93.9 בירושלים והסביבה; FM 107 בחיפה והגליל המערבי; FM 104 באצבע הגליל ועמק בית שאן; FM 99.8 בבאר שבע והנגב; FM 106.4 במצפה רמון ובאילת.
