شرح زندگانی معاویه بن ابی سفیان و خدمات وی به جامعه اسلامی است. در این اثر کوشیده شده تا با پرهیز از موارد اختلافی و توصیف مشاجرات تاریخی، تصویری صحیح و عاری از تعصب از امیر معاویه ترسیم کند و حقایق را از میان غبار بعض و شبهات بیرون آورد. وی در آغاز پیشینۀ خانوادگی و نسب معاویه را بیان نموده و مختصری از دوران کودکی تا جوانی و تشرف ایشان به اسلام را بازگو می‌کند. در ادامه، دیدگاه صحابه و تابعین درباره شخصیت و اقدامات ایشان نقل شده و آنگاه خدمات متعدد این حاکم مقتدر به جامعه اسلامی و دستاوردهای نظامی و اجتماعی در دوران زمامداری وی بیان می‌گردد. بخش پایانی کتاب به ذکر مختصری از فضایل و مناقب اخلاقی و ایمانی امیر معاویه اختصاص دارد.
