لم يعرف الكاتب طعم حنان الأب، حيث كان أبوه قاسيا جدا، كان يضربه ويعذبه، وقتل أخاه أمامه. كل هذه الظروف التي عاشها الكاتب محمد شكري وقعت تحت قهر الاستعمار وظروف الحرب.
