ولد في مدينة بغداد، درس الهندسة وكسب منها لقبه "ماجد المهندس". تربى ماجد في عائلة مسلمة بسيطة, حيث حرص على العمل وإكمال دراسته الجامعية إضافة إلى اهتمامه بالفن. حرص ماجد على الدخول في مجال الفن
بالرغم من معارضة اهله وغضبهم من هذا المجال, فحقق ماجد رغبة اهله بإكمال دراسته الجامعية بالإضافة إلى تعلم الموسيقى. فاشترى لنفسه أول عود ليتدرب على الموسيقى.
