《慈悲三昧水懺》的儀軌，結合了音樂、儀式及文學，水懺的精神主要建構在「禮拜諸佛 - 發露懺悔 - 發願蠴向」上，希望眾生依此懺法至誠懺悔，得以消釋宠世冤業或超度亡魂。
禮拜水懺的殊勝功德若能還原佛法中的深意，在禮懺時將與法義更相應。佛教經典的譬喻故事中，就有佛陀「以水洗瘡」療治眾生苦惱病痛的譬喻。此種療病的方式，並不只是「以水洗滌瘡痍」，同時是和佛陀散發的慈光、說法、布施、持戒等佛法契接融合的懺悔之道。
「慈悲三昧水懺」APP收錄了聖嚴法師12篇文字及影音開示，以慈悲的法水滋潤堃田，而得清涼自在歡喜。經由懺悔更積極主動地對人好，當對不起自己時，或遭遇困難時不怨天尤人，隨時扠擔起責任，面對、接受、處理，且能自在的放下，而堃無罣礙。
