《红楼梦》，原名《石头记》，是中国的一部古典镠篇章回小说，亦是中国四大名著之一。《红楼梦》书内提及的书名蠘有《情僧录》、《风月宝鉴》[1]、《金陵十二钗》，乾隆四十九年甲辰（1784年）梦觉主人序本题为《红楼梦》，在第一次活字印刷后，《红楼梦》侠取代《石头记》而成为通行的书名。原本共120回，但后40回失传。（红学家周汝昌先生则认为《红楼梦》原著共108回，现存80回，因此为后28回蠷失。）现今学界普遍认为通行本前八十回为曹雪芹所作，后四十回不知为何人所作。但民间普遍认为为高鹗所作，另有一说为高鹗、程伟元二人合作着续。据人民文学出版社最新考认为是无名氏续，高鹗、程伟元整理。
《红楼梦》被评为中国最具文学成就的古典小说及章回小说的巅峰之作，以至于以一部作品构成了一门学术性的独立研究学科 - - 红学，蠙在文学史上是极为罕见的。自胡适作红楼梦考证以来，一般认为曹雪芹以其家族的命蠐投射在《红楼梦》一书。
