Tajwid (Hukum Tajwid) adalah disiplin ilmu yang dibuat untuk mengajar pembaca, agar dapat membaca Al-Quran sesuai dengan contoh bacaan Rasulullah SAW. Oleh kerana itu, mempraktikkan tajwid, hukumnya adalah fardhu ‘ain. Setiap orang yang membaca Alqur’an, tanpa kecuali, harus mempraktikkan tajwidnya. Menguasai teori berupa penamaan hukum-hukum tajwid,hukumnya adalah fardhu kifayah. Oleh itu, adalah HARAM bagi orang yang telah mempelajari dan mengetahui ilmu tajwid tetapi tidak mengamalkannya dalam bacaan. Bagi orang yang tidak mempelajari ilmu tajwid maka wajiblah ia belajar untuk menghindarkan dirinya daripada berterusan melakukan kesalahan tersebut.
