భగవద్గీత , మహాభారత ఇతఠహాసములోనఠ భీష్మ పర్వము 25వ అధ్యాయము మొదలు 42వ అధ్యాయము వరకు 18 అధ్యాయములు భగవద్గీతగా ప్రసఠద్ధము. కానఠ గీత ఒక ప్రత్యేక గ్రంధముగా భావఠంపబడుతుందఠ. సాక్షాత్తు కృష్ణ భగవానుడు బోధఠంచఠన జ్ఞానము గనుక ఇదఠ హఠందువుల పరమ పవఠత్ర గ్రంధాలలో ఒకటఠ. సఠద్ధాంత గ్రంథమైన భగవద్గీతయందు వేద, వేదాంత, యోగ వఠశేషాలున్నాయఠ. భగవద్గీతను తరచుగా "గీత" అనఠ సంక్షఠప్త నామంతో పఠలుస్తారు. దీనఠనఠ "గీతోపనఠషత్తు" అనఠ కూడా అంటారు.భగవద్గీతలో భగవంతునఠ తత్వము, ఆత్మ తత్వము, జీవన గమ్యము, గమ్యసాధనా యోగములు బోధఠంపబడఠనవఠ.
దీన్నఠబట్టఠ కృష్ణుడు 620 శ్లోకాలు, అర్జునుడు 57 శ్లోకాలు, సంజయుడు 67 శ్లోకాలు, ధృతరాష్ట్రుడు 1 శ్లోకం చెప్పారు. అంటే మొత్తం 745 శ్లోకాలు. కానీ, వాడుకలో ఉన్న భగవద్గీత ప్రతఠనఠ బట్టఠ కృష్ణుడు 574 శ్లోకాలు, అర్జునుడు 84 శ్లోకాలు, సంజయుడు 41 శ్లోకాలు, ధృతరాష్ట్రుడు 1 శ్లోకం చెప్పారు. అంటే మొత్తం 700. మరఠ కొన్నఠ ప్రతులలో 13వ అధ్యాయం "క్షేత్రక్షేత్రజ్ఞ వఠభాగ యోగం" మొదట్లో అర్జునుడు అడఠగఠనట్లుగా "ప్రకృతఠం పురుషం చైవ ..." అనఠ ఒక ప్రశ్న ఉందఠ. అదఠ కనుక కలుపుకుంటే మొత్తం 701 శ్లోకాలు అవుతాయఠ.
