Almeida Revista e Atualizada é uma das Bíblias mais populares e mais utilizadas atualmente no Brasil, devido a sua ampla aceitação no meio Protestante e no meio Católico. A Revista e Atualizada foi baseada na versão da tradução da Bíblia de João Ferreira de Almeida, a Almeida Revista e Corrigida edição de 1898; A Revista e Atualizada foi publicada em 1959 pela Sociedade Bíblica do Brasil, e é atualmente uma das mais usadas pelos protestantes brasileiros e bem aceita entre os católicos, foi o resultado de treze anos de trabalho de cerca de trinta revisores, baseando-se no chamado Texto Crítico, e de manuscritos mais antigos do grego e hebraico disponíveis, e principalmente como fonte a Bíblia Almeida Revista e Corrigida, em vez de seguir o tradicional Textus Receptus ("texto recebido"), único à disposição na época de Almeida. Quanto à linguagem, procurou-se um equilíbrio entre a linguagem erudita e a popular.
Apesar de ser considerada baseada no texto de Almeida, apresenta-se como uma nova e muito diferente tradução.[1] Ela mantém o sabor clássico do Almeida antigo, mas substituiu as expressões que, em vez de sinais de erudição, se tornaram, com o tempo, arcaísmos, estando em alinhamento com novas evidências arqueológicas, evidências estas refletidas no Texto Crítico, diferindo, assim, da original da qual foi usada como texto base Almeida Revista e Corrigida, única que ainda se mantém aos manuscritos originais disponíveis no tempo de Almeida.
