Black metal is an extreme metal sub-classification of Heavy metal music that started in the early-to-mid 1980s, with influences from hardcore punk, thrash metal, and death metal. In terms of vocal elements, classic Black metal artists employ raspy and high-pitched vocals that include screaming, shrieking, and snarling. This vocal style separates Black metal from Death metal which often incorporates low-pitched growls.

Black metal musicians’ apparels typically include black clothing with bullet belts, spiked wristbands, combat boots, and inverted crosses/pentagrams. Most notable is their use of use of corpse paint - black and white makeup which is every now and then blended with fake or real blood, to evoke a corpse-like representation.
