This free app includes poems, videos and audio of nearly 100 poets from around the world all published by Bloodaxe Books. Developed by Newcastle University in partnership with Bloodaxe, it allows readers to read, watch, listen to and share poetry on their mobile devices. From the Home screen, you can Search the app for a particular poem or poet, or the allow yourself to be guided by the random opening lines appearing at the screen.
Content can be browsed by name of Poet and by title of Poem, or by poems featuring Audio or Video recordings. Poets are also sorted in Categories and poems featured in the app have been tagged with Themes to allow you to browse related content. Once you have added some poems to your Favourites list, you can use this option to navigate to them quickly.
After reading, listening to, or watching a poem, the app currently allows you to share poems and recommendations via social media and email, add the poet to your Favourites list, or tag the poem with themes. You can also change how the poem appears on the screen using the Display option.
The poets currently featured are: Robert Adamson, Fleur Adcock, Kim Addonizio, John Agard, Anna Akhmatova, Elizabeth Alexander, Gillian Allnutt, Moniza Alvi, Simon Armitage, Claire Askew, James Berry, Ana Blandiana, Jean 'Binta' Breeze, Basil Bunting, Matthew Caley, Jane Clarke, Jane Commane, Stewart Conn, David Constantine, Ailbhe Darcy, Nia Davies, Imtiaz Dharker, Peter Didsbury, Katie Donovan, Maura Dooley, Tishani Doshi, Finuala Dowling, Helen Dunmore, Menna Elfyn, Ruth Fainlight, Roy Fisher, Carolyn Forché, Tua Forsström, Tess Gallagher, Deborah Garrison, Philip Gross, Friedrich Hölderlin, Choman Hardi, Robert Hass, John Hegley, W.N. In future updates, we will be adding more poets to the list, as well as improving the look and feel of the app, but we would also like to add and improve other features based on the thoughts of poetry readers.
