Aktivitas penelitian di berbagai bidang ipteks secara substansi ditandai oleh empat hal, yaitu adanya upaya bersifat sistematik, adanya sesuatu hasil temuan, adanya kebermanfaatan dan adanya tindak lanjut penyebarluasan temuan (Mukhadis, 2013:70).
Upaya sistematik dalam konteks ini ditandai dengan adanya kejelasan langkah-langkah yang ditempuh secara eksplisit, jelas dan lugas mulai dari penentuan masalah sampai penarikan kesimpulan dan atau generalisasi (perampatan) dan dapat direplikasi oleh peneliti lain temuan (Mukhadis, 2013:70). Penelitian sebagai upaya sistematik memiliki arti bahwa untuk dapat memperoleh pengetahuan yang benar, penelitian dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode ilmiah oleh peneliti yang memiliki integritas ilmiah. Penelitian dilaksanakan berdasarkan teori-teori, prinsip-prinsip, serta asumsi-asumsi dasar ilmu pengetahuan dengan menggunakan penalaran deduktif serta prosedur dan teknik sistematik.
Sebagai contoh, Creswell (2012:8-11) menyebutkan setidaknya terdapat 6 sistematika penelitian yaitu: (1) mengidentifikasi masalah penelitian, (2) mencari literatur yang sesuai dan mendukung, (3) menspesifikkan tujuan penelitian, (4) mengumpulkan data, (5) menganalisa dan mengintepretasikan data, dan (6) membuat laporan dan evaluasi penelitian. Research activities in various fields of science and technology are substantially characterized by four things, namely their efforts are systematic, there is something findings, their usefulness and their follow-up dissemination of findings (Mukhadis, 2013: 70).
Systematic efforts in this context characterized by the clarity of the steps taken by explicit, clear and straightforward start problem determination until inferences or generalizations (Generalizations) and can be replicated by other researchers findings (Mukhadis, 2013: 70). Research as a systematic effort has meant that in order to acquire the right knowledge, research was conducted using scientific methods by researchers who have scientific integrity. The research was conducted based on the theories, principles, and basic assumptions of science by using deductive reasoning and systematic procedures and techniques.
For example, Creswell (2012: 8-11) says there are at least 6 systematics research are: (1) identify the research problem, (2) seek appropriate literature and support, (3) specify the purpose of research, (4) collecting data, ( 5) analyze and interpret the data, and (6) make a report and evaluation research.
