O Bico-duro (Canto de Bico Duro) é uma ave Passeriforme da família Thraupidae.
Características 'Canto de Bico Duro'
Consta que procura frutos,
bagas e sementes em bordas de matas no sul ou em áreas semi-
abertas de espinilho e que chega a consumir folhas verdes tenras de certas plantas.
Possui uma plumagem cinza por cima com ampla sobrancelha branca atrás do olho,
preto na testa e face, estendendo-se como uma faixinha no peito,
que delimita a garganta branca; por baixo cinza-pardacento. Fêmea mais oliva por cima,
faixa no peito estreita ou ausente; jovem parecido,
com sobrancelha amarelada; ambos com menos laranja no bico.
Único do gênero cuja sobrancelha não começa no loro,Mede 20 cm de comprimento
Canto de longo alcance, uma frase abrupta e variável, “tcho-tcho-tchuíu” ou “tchuíu-tchiuí”,
com a ultima nota sempre enfatizada; em geral emitido a partir de um poleiro elevado.
Estou tendo a oportunidade de observar melhor seu período reprodutivo,
já que um casal resolveu fazer ninho em uma bergamoteira, e tenho contato visual diário.
Este pássaro macho começou a vocalizar muito no mês de setembro, e me chamou a atenção,
já que passava o dia vocalizando em seus lugares preferidos, normalmente em árvores altas..
Em outubro entendi o motivo da cantoria, percebi pela 1º vez que estava com uma companheira..
A fêmea passou-se despercebida até o momento de eu observar em novembro dia 2 o macho recolhendo sementes pelo chão,
e voando para uma bergamoteira, no qual observei o ninho.
Cheguei a pensar que o macho estava criando seus filhotes sozinho,
mas depois finalmente percebi a fêmea depois de muito tempo.
Sei que não devemos nos aproximar muito dos ninhos de aves
mas, como tem-se poucos registros, e todos na metade do RS,
resolvi acompanhar esta espécie mais a fundo.
Segue acima o 1º registro do ninho que fiz no dia 04 de novembro de 2013.
É possível observar 3 filhotes, no qual aparentemente um esta mais pequeno..
Agora, aqui na esquerda está uma foto feita após 9 dias, dia 13 de novembro de 2013.
É possível observar que tem só um indivíduo no ninho.
