A Casa Museu foi, durante quase 50 anos, a residência particular de Fernando Bissaya Barreto (1886-1974).
Projetada pelo arquiteto Fiel Viterbo, a construção desta ampla residência foi iniciada em 1923 e concluída em 1925. Construída em dois pisos, num estilo eclético com acentuadas sugestões do barroco joanino português, é coroada por um largo e belo torreão octogonal, elegantemente fenestrado.
O conjunto da casa e jardim reflectem o gosto e a sensibilidade artística do proprietário, expressivamente marcados, não só pelos trabalhos artísticos que a embelezam, por si encomendados às oficinas de reputados artífices e artistas da região, como também às colecções de arte que esta possui. The House Museum was, for almost 50 years, the private residence of Fernando Bissaya Barreto (1886-1974).
Designed by architect loyal Viterbo, the construction of this large residence started in 1923 and completed in 1925. Built on two floors, in an eclectic style with strong hints of Portuguese Joanine Baroque, it is crowned by a large and beautiful octagonal tower, elegantly fenestrated.
The whole house and garden reflect the taste and artistic sensibility of the owner, significantly marked not only by the artwork that grace by itself ordered the workshops of renowned architects and artists of the region, as well as the art collections that this has .
