Anak negeri yang dikenal dengan sebutan Uje ini adalah
anak ketiga dari Ayah, Ismail Modal (alm) yang berdarah Maluku dan Ibu, Tatu Mulyana.
Berdasarkan wawancaranya dengan Gatra, masa kecilnya dihabiskan di daerah Pangeran Jayakarta di mana lingkungan sekitarnya terdapat banyak bar dan diskotek
Kariernya di bidang dakwah dimulai pada tahun 2000 saat menggantikan kakaknya yang menjadi imam di sebuah masjid di Singapura.
Pekerjaan kakaknya untuk memberikan khotbah di masjid-masjid dekat rumah di wilayah Pangeran Jayakarta, Jakarta diberikan pada Jefri.
Pertama kali menerima honor dari pekerjaan mendakwah berasal dari sebuah masjid di bilangan Mangga Dua sebesar 35 ribu rupiah.
Jefri sebagai pendakwah mulai dikenal orang secara luas pada tahun 2002
