Hindus celebrate Dhanteras or Yamadeep festival throughout India and world. This festival falls in October or November month that marks the beginning of the five day celebrations of Diwali festival.
It takes place two days before Diwali to venerate incarnation of Lord Vishnu named Dhayantri. The meaning of the word “Dhan” in English is wealth and from the 13th date the word “Tera” it came. On this day, people worship Lord Yamraj who is well known as God of death and to pray Yama lamps are lightened by them so that he will bless them with protection, well being and prosperity. On this day people buy jewelry of gold or silver or utensils.Dhanteras is the first day of the five day Deepavali Festival. Dhanteras also known as "Dhantrayodashi" or "Dhanwantari Triodasi". Dhanteras is a special festival when the "Owl"( Carrier of Goddess Laxmi) is worshiped to provide wealth, prosperity and well being. Dhanvantari is an avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism. He appears in the Vedas and Puranas as the physician of the gods (devas), and the god of Ayurveda. It is common practice in Hinduism for worshipers to pray to Dhanvantari seeking his blessings for sound health for themselves and/or others, especially on Dhanteras.
Bhagavata Purana states that Dhanvantari emerged from the Ocean of Milk and appeared with the pot of nectar during the story of the Samudra (or) Sagara Mathana whilst the ocean was being churned by the Devas and Asuras, using the Mandara mountain and the serpent Vasuki. The pot of Amrita was snatched by the Asuras or Demons, and after this event another avatar, Mohini, appears and takes the nectar back from the Asuras. It is also believed that Dhanvantari promulgated the practise of ayurveda.[1] - Listening to this mantras will give you good Health.

Dhanteras (or Dhana Trayodashi) Hindi : धनतेरस, Sanskrit/Marathi : धनत्रयोदशी) is the first day of the five-day Diwali Festival as celebrated primarily in Northern & Western part of India. In south India it is known as Dhanalakshmi pooja. The festival, known as "Dhanatrayodashi" or "Dhanvantari Trayodashi".The word Dhana means wealth and Trayodashi means 13th day as per Hindu calendar. It is celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) in the Hindu calendar month of Aaswayuja in the Amaavasyanta Luni-Solar Calendar.
On Dhanteras, Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped to provide prosperity and well being. Dhanteras holds special significance for the business community due to the customary purchases of precious metals
on this day. Lord Kubera, the God of assets and wealth is also worshipped on this day.
