กรมวิชาการเกษตรได้รับการสถาปนา เมื่อวันที่ 1 ตุลาคม 2515 โดยการรวมกรมกสิกรรมและกรมการข้าวเข้าด้วยกันตามประกาศคณะปฏิวัติฉบับที่ 216 ลงวันที่ 21 กันยายน 2515 และกรมวิชาการเกษตรได้จัดตั้งห้องสมุดขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2520 สังกัดงานเผยแพร่และบริการทางวิทยาการ กองวิทยาการ กรมวิชาการเกษตร ในปีพ.ศ. 2524 ได้ย้ายไปที่ชั้น 2 ของอาคารหอสมุดเดิมที่มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ โดยแอปพลิเคชัน DOA books ได้ถูกจัดทำขึ้นเพื่อเผยแพร่เนื้อหา หนังสือภายในห้องสมุด และหนังสืออิเล็กทรอนิกส์ รวมไปถึงเนื้อหาประเภทวิดีโอด้วย
