Imam Abu Dawud (817 / 202 H - meninggal di Basrah; 888 / 16 Syawal 275 H; umur 70 - 71 tahun) adalah salah seorang perawi hadits, yang mengumpulkan sekitar 50.000 hadits lalu memilih dan menuliskan 4.800 di antaranya dalam kitab Sunan Abu Dawud. Kemudian mengunjungi berbagai negeri untuk memetik langsung ilmu dari sumbernya. Beliau langsung berguru selama bertahun-tahun. Di antara guru-gurunya adalah Imam Ahmad Al-Qanabiy, Sulaiman Bin Hard, Abu Amr adh-Dhariri, Abu Walid ath-Thayalisi, Abu Zakariya Yahya bin main, Abu Khaitsamah, Zuhair bin Harb, ad-Darimi, Abu Ustman Sa'id bin Manshur, Ibnu Abi Syaibah dan ulama lainnya.
Abu Dawud mempunyai karangan yang banyak, antara lain:

6. Kitab az-Zuhud

Ahbarul Khawarij Imam Abu Dawud (817/202 H - died in Basrah; 888/16 Shawwal 275 H; aged 70-71 years) is one of the narrators, which collects about 50,000 hadith then select and write 4,800 of them in the book of Sunan Abu Dawud.
