Description [menu]

If a healthy diet is important to you, then take a moment to look at a few food ingredient labels at your local grocery store. You'll find dangerous additives such as monosodium glutamate (MSG), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and even worse! The U.S. Food and Drug Administration claims these are "generally recognized as safe", however independent research suggests otherwise. But what about the safety of other common additives such as propyl gallate or sodium nitrate?

Introducing Ingredian, the food scanner. Ingredian uses your phone's camera to scan ingredient label text for quickly detecting additives and other potentially harmful chemicals lurking in your food. All detected ingredients are sorted in order by category with web links that provide additional information about each one.

Ingredian can also assist in detecting allergens such as eggs, dairy, fish, nuts, soy and wheat. The Ingredian Pro paid version supports an Alpha-gal diet, i.e., red meat allergy diet.

This app scans ingredient label text on the product container. Similar apps scan bar codes, which are frequently out of date or missing entirely from the connected server's database.
