Khotbah”, dipandang dari segi bahasa, adalah ‘perkataan yang disampaikan dari atas mimbar’. Adapun kata-kata “khitbah” yang sama dengan kata “khotbah” (dipandang dari bahasa Arab) berarti ‘melamar perempuan untuk dinikahi’. “Khotbah” adalah berasal dari bahasa Arab yang adalah kata bentukan dari “mukhathabah” yang mempunyai makna ‘pembicaraan’. Ada pula yang kata yang berasal dari kata “al-khatbu” yang bermakna ‘perkara besar yang dibicarakan’, karena orang Arab tidak berkhotbah kecuali saat perkara besar.
Sedangkan idul adha adalah Hari raya kurban yang kita peringati tiap tahun tak bisa terlepas dari kisah Nabi Ibrahim sebagaimana terekam dalam Surat ash-Shaffat ayat 99-111.
