Umar bin Khattab bin Nafiel bin Abdul Uzza atau lebih dikenal dengan Umar bin Khattab (581 - November 644) adalah salah seorang sahabat Nabi Muhammad S.A.W yang juga adalah khalifah kedua Islam (634-644). Umar juga merupakan satu di antara empat orang Khalifah yang digolongkan sebagai Khalifah yang diberi petunjuk (Khulafaur Rasyidin). Ia memiliki panggilan (kuniyyah) Abu Hafshoh.
Umar dilahirkan di kota Mekkah dari suku Bani Adi, salah satu rumpun suku Quraisy, suku terbesar di kota Mekkah saat itu. Ayahnya bernama Khattab bin Nufail Al Shimh Al Quraisyi dan ibunya Hantamah binti Hasyim, dari marga Bani Makhzum. Umar memiliki julukan yang diberikan oleh Nabi Muhammad yaitu Al-Faruq yang berarti orang yang bisa memisahkan antara kebenaran dan kebatilan. Keluarga Umar tergolong dalam keluarga kelas menengah, ia bisa membaca dan menulis, yang pada masa itu merupakan sesuatu yang langka.

Umar also was among four people who were classified as the Caliph Caliph who were given instructions (caliph). He had a call (kuniyyah) Abu Hafshoh.
Umar was born in Mecca from the tribe of Bani Adi, one of the groups of Quraysh tribe, the largest tribe in Mecca at that time. His father was Khattab bin Nufail Al Shimh Al Quraisyi and mother Hantamah binti Hashim, from the clan of Bani Makhzum. Umar had a nickname given by the Prophet Muhammad, Al-Faruq, which means people who can distinguish between truth and falsehood. Umar families belonging to the middle-class family, he could read and write, which at that time was something rare.
