Sahabat Nabi ash-shahaabah an-nabiy) adalah mereka yang mengenal dan melihat langsung Nabi Muhammad, membantu perjuangannya dan meninggal dalam keadaan Muslim. Kebanyakan ulama secara umum mendefinisikan Sahabat Nabi sebagai mereka yang mengenal Nabi Muhammad, mempercayai ajarannya, dan meninggal dalam keadaan Islam. Dalam kitabnya Al-Isbahah fi Tamyiz ash-Shahabah, Ibnu Hajar al-Asqalani (w. 852 H/1449 M) menyampaikan bahwa
