Pengertian kasidah yang terdapat dalam khazanah kesusasteraan Indonesia mirip dengan kasidah yang ada dalam sastra Arab. Dalam Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI) dikatakan bahwa kasidah merupakan “bentuk puisi, berasal dari kesusateraan Arab, bersifat pujian (satire, keagamaan), biasanya dinyanyikan (dilagukan)” (Tim Penyusun Kamus, 1988:493). Meskipun demikian, istilah tersebut berbeda dengan istilah yang sama yang terdapat dalam ungkapan “lagu kasidah” yang umumnya berbahasa Indonesia.
