Dalam setiap menjalankan ibadah kita harus suci atau bersih, baik jasmani atau rohani karena itu sebagai syarat sahnya ibadah. untuk rohani, kita terlebih dahulu mengucap 2 kalimat syahadat. untuk jasmani, maka kita perlu bersih dari kotoran atau najis, baik badan maupun pakaian yang kita pakai. untuk membersihkan najis atau kotoran itu kita perlu bersuci (thaharah).
Allah berfirman : “Dan pakaianmu bersihkanlah” (QS al-Mudatsir: 4). “Sesungguhnya Allah menyukai orang-orang yang bertaubat dan mensucikan diri (QS al-Baqarah: 222). “Di dalamnya (mesjid) terdapat orang-orang yang bertaubat dan membersihkan diri, sesungguhnya Allah suka kepada orang-orang yang selalu membersihkan diri” (QS at-Taubah: 108).
sering kali kita tak sadar akan keberadaan najis tersebut, kita tentunya tak mau kalau ibadah kita dianggap tidak sah hanya karena najis yang melekat pada badan atau pakaian kita.

often we are not aware of the existence of the unclean, we certainly do not want that our worship is considered invalid only because of unclean attached to the body or clothing us.
