1. Introduction
"Nithya Panchangam" Android App aims to provide details about the five main elements of Vedic Astrology. These are Thithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana and Vasaram. Besides the 5 basic "Panchangam" elements, "Nithya Panchangam" details 17 more elements for a given Calendar day.
Note: The primary aim of this app is to enable people to conveniently reckon the daily panchaangam, as well as various festivals & observances. We apologise for any inadvertent errors that may have crept in, and request feedback for improvement. We dedicate this App to scholars and Panchaanga-karta(s) across the country, who have mastered these calculations and participate in "Panchanga Sadas" across the country, debating the nitty-gritties of various aspects of Panchangam(s). We request all app users to continue to support their traditional Panchanga(s), Panchanga-karta(s), and family Vathiyar(s).🙏
2. Features
"Nithya Panchangam" supports the following features as a "tab" in rolling tabular form.
2.1) Panchangam
Dina Vishesham - Indicates the event (or) festival (or) function for a given calendar day. A detailed Panchangam information shall be provided on a given calendar day.
2.2) Sankalpam
Every act needs to start with an intent, resolve and good will. This is nicely reflected in Vedic scriptures in the form of a "Sankalpam".
The second paragraph in "Sankalpam" tab, highlights in "RED" colour, the current (or) selected date's Panchangam information.
Shubham
For all auspicious functions, festivals, celebrations, etc, "Shubha" sankalpam is done before starting the act.
Note: This is a default setting in "Nithya Panchangam" App. User can use "left" & "right" arrow buttons to navigate to previous & next calendar dates.
Shrardham
For all pithru karyams or any other not so auspicious activities etc, "Shrardham" sankalpam is done before starting the act.
Note:This can be changed in the "Settings" menu.
2.3) Alarm
Addition of time-based Alarms (Once, Daily & Custom).
2.4) Reminder
"Nithya Panchangam" App supports festival or event-based Reminders (Once & Every Occurrence).
Upon enablements of the Reminder, a notification shall pop up at the stipulated time of the Reminder, on the occurrence of the festival or event.
User shall have an option to "Snooze" or "Dismiss" the Reminder.
2.5) Stopwatch
Regular stopwatch that supports "Start", "Pause" and "Stop" functionalities.
2.6) Calendar
"Nithya Panchangam" App supports a monthly calendar view that superimposes "Dina Ankam" & "Dina Vishesham" images over a Gregorian monthly calendar. Each cell in the calendar represents a date. A pop up is shown with minimal Vedic Panchangam details when user clicks on a particular date. User needs to click "tick" mark button for the Panchangam/Sankalpam details to be properly displayed as per the selected date.
Note: User has options to change year, month or date using the "left" or "right" navigation controls.
User also has an option to pop up a "year change" dialog box that allows changing only the year within a 200-year time period.
Location Selection
User can click on the "location" field in "Panchangam" tab to change the location as per the user's choice.
Note: Panchangam calculations have heavy dependency on the location, longitude, latitude, Sunrise & Sunset timings. Currently, this App supports limited cities, towns, countries, continents ONLY.
3. Settings
"Nithya Panchangam" App supports configuration of language, sankalpam type & location options.
GPS-based - When this is configured, location is auto-retrieved based on GPS/Internet settings. Location thus retrieved can be viewed in the "location" field in "Panchangam" tab. Note: This requires user permissions.
Panchangam - Drik Ganitham & Vakyam both are supported.
