Description: Sky Map APK
Sky Map is a hand-held planetarium for your Android device. Use it to identify stars, planets, nebulae and more.
Originally developed as Google Sky Map, it has now been donated and open sourced.
Troubleshooting/FAQ
The Map doesn't move/points in the wrong place
Make sure you haven't switched into manual mode. Does your phone have a compass? If not, Sky Map cannot tell your orientation. Look it up here: http://www.gsmarena.com/
Try calibrating your compass by moving it in a figure of 8 motion or as described here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1EPbAapaeI.
Are there any magnets or metal nearby that might interfere with the compass? Try switching off "magnetic correction" (in settings) and see if that is more accurate.
Why is autolocation not supported for my phone?
In Android 6 the way permissions work has changed. You need to enable the location permission setting for Sky Map as described here:
https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6270602?p=app_permissons_m
The Map is jittery
Try adjusting the sensor speed and damping (in settings). We have a better solution coming soon!
Do I need an internet connection?
No, but some functions (like entering your location manually) won't work without one. You'll have to use the GPS or enter a latitude and longitude instead.
Can I help test the latest features?

Works well
Works well, no crashing. Takes a minute for calibration when you first start it but I really can't complain as it does its job well.

It keeps getting better!
It's a great and fun tool to quickly put a name to a star or planet. I love using it with my kids.

Great app, but non-obvious workaround for gyroless phones
I reinstalled this app after over year of not using it on my 1st gen Moto G. It worked in the past, so I was surprised when it didn't work this time (sky not moving in auto mode). Turns out I needed
to check the "Disable gyroscope" option in the settings. I actually thought that the compass or accelerometer was a gyroscope equivalent. A more novice user might not have bothered looking for a fix
to this known issue.

Excellent app. Seems amazingly accurate. A great way to get my kid interested in astronomy/science. We saw what I thought was Mars (reddish color) but Skymap identified it as Betelgeuse. We googled
Betelgeuse and found out we were actually looking at a red giant star over 600 light years away. Alot of fun for us.

Constalation Map
I love this app, there's so many features to this app that continues to excite me. For example, you can go into the past, & forward to the future to see constalation, plus you can go to a
particular date & time. I took a picture one day without knowing there was 3 plants that my camera pick up. I've put the exact location time & date of what planets was in my cellphone
picture, That blew my mind to see what planets was in my picture. It'll be educational for children and adults, so get it, NOW.

Still one of the good ones!
I had this app before and removed from a previous phone for space. Just never had installed on my (then) newer phone. (Using Note 3) installed tonight, downloaded quickly and was ready to calibrate.
Calibration took a couple of trys and did end up using the figure 8 method to do so. (Explained in app) Went from low accuracy straight to high. Everything lined up perfectly. Such a fun app that's
also very functional. Now I'm eager to see if it will work just as well on my new(er) phone upgrade.. Note 5.

Fallen from grace
Used to be such a good app, however after upgrading several phones over the years the app hasn't kept up and flat out doesn't work on my Moto z force. Premium phone with outstanding performance so I
know it's not my phone but the app can't seem to use gyro data correctly and just spins the image around on screen as though you were moving. Not useful in this manner

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (4.4.4 KitKat), had a little trouble at first in the calibration of my device. Used different tools and did tests til showing accurate. SKY Maps works like a charm every time
used, just as promised it would once my device was set up correctly. ; )

No sensitive permissions, yay!
Thanks for that alone, guys! There are a bunch of other (potentially wonderful) apps out there, which a paranoic like me cannot use, and in that sea of intrusive jerks you are a breath of fresh air.
Props for respecting your users' privacy (:

Cool but..
When I saw this app I immediately install it . because i love exploring the skies but.. When I open it .. It doesn't work to my device... Does it works for huawei phones.? Hopefully it does.. I'll
rate it 5 because you make other people happy for this app.. Thank you.. :)

Had it since Galaxy S.
I hope they do not change the icon it is so recognisable as I have used it since 2011.The amount of things this app did back then when you needed lots of sky charts to do same thing blew me away. This
is now part of my Android set up whether it is LG,Sony,Sammy etc. :).

Grrrrrr
Great fix. Now it crashes every time I try to use it. Worked great before the update. My 6 year old and I loved using It too. So disappointed.

Panning around smoother but image still keeps jerking when phone is held steady. Disabled. Galaxy S7. To dev - yes, worse when active

Not only does the new update NOT have ISS or Hubble Space Telescope, it is completely wrong on planet and moon location.

An app that educates
I've had SkyMap for 3 yrs and I use it several times a week. It's taught me so much and I can now identify most objects & constellations. Plus I admit I enjoy it when someone says, "Look at that
bright star" and I'm able to tell them, 'That's not a star; it's the planet Venus.' The Time Travel feature is a great option and I love the Gallery images-- gives a close-up perspective of those
distant points of light.
