Latest update [menu]
Touched up around the edges. Virtually the same functionality, downgraded API to support Android 2.2 (Froyo).
Description [menu]
Smart Tones allows you to assign a text tone for contacts with a certain number of letters in their first name. An SMS from contact "Steve Jobs" would then sound the 5-letter tone, but an SMS from "Bill Gates" would sound the 4-letter one.
This provides a way to split different contacts into different notification sounds without having to assign a tone to each individual contact. Since most names are between 3-6 letters, over time you will become familiar with which contacts are in which group. Also, if you are texting two people at once, most of the time their names will fall in different categories and you will be able to distinguish between them.
NOTE: Since this app plays its own text sounds, it is recommended you disable your previous text sounds by going to Messaging -> Settings -> Sound -> None.
