Die Wissensredaktion des Südwestrundfunks (SWR) sammelt seit dem Jahr 2006 in jedem Frühling Apfelblütenbeobachtungen. Alle Teilnehmer der Aktion sind aufgefordert, das Öffnen der ersten Apfelblüten, den Beginn der Vollblüte der Bäume oder auch das Ende der Blüte zu melden.
Über viele Jahre hinweg wächst auf diese Weise ein Datenpool, in dem sich die Spuren eines möglichen Klimawandels finden lassen sollten. Denn je früher die Apfelbäume blühen umso milder die Witterung.
