The Tabla also known as Arabic drum, darbukkah, darbouka or dumbak is a single headed hand drum (Punjabi: ਤਬਲਾ, Hindi: तबला, Bengali: তবলা, Tamil: தபலா Malayalam: തബല Telugu : తబలా ) is a percussion instrument similar to bongos, which is often used in Hindustani classical music and in the traditional music of Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The instrument consists of a pair of hand drums of contrasting sizes and timbres.
