Segala puji bagi Allah Tuhan semesta alam. Shalawat dan salam semoga senantiasa tercurahkan kepada Rasulullah Muhammad SAW, keluarga, sahabat-sahabat beliau, dan segenap pengikutnya dari dahulu sampai sekarang dan di masa yang akan datang. Do’a merupakan kebutuhan riil bagi kaum muslimin. Sebab, umat manusia tidak pernah lepas dari kebutuhan. Dan do’a merupakan perantara untuk menghadirkan kebutuhan kita sesuai dengan kehendak Allah SWT. Dengan harapan, kita bisa lebih memahami dan memaknai do’a sebagai ibadah dan perantara terkabulnya permohonan kita kepada Allah SWT.
Doa, dalam bahasa Arab berasal dari akar kata da’a-yad’u yang berarti memohon, meminta pertolongan, menyeru, dll. Dalam al-Qur’an maupun Hadits juga banyak terdapat makna doa. Tetapi secara umum, doa dipahami sebagai bentuk permohonan seorang hamba kepada Sang Khaliq, Allah Swt. Permohonan tersebut tentu untuk kebaikan diri dan orang lain, bukan untuk sesuatu yang negatif.
Sebelum berdoa hendaklah memuji terlebih dahulu kepada Allah SWT dan membaca shalawat serta salam kepada Nabi Muhammad Saw. Bersangka baik kepada Allah Swt dan yakin doanya akan dikabulkan, baik cepat maupun lambat. Mengakui dosa dan kesalahan. Memantapkan hati. Tidak tergesa-gesa. Doa yang dipanjatkan untuk kebaikan, bukan keburukan.
Pada dasarnya, kita bisa berdoa kapanpun di luar waktu atau tempat yang dilarang oleh syara’. Tetapi, ada waktu-waktu utama untuk berdoa, di ataranya: Pada waktu pagi hari, terutama sesudah shalat Subuh hingga sebelum terbit matahari. Pada waktu siang hari terutama sesudah shalat Dhuhur di waktu matahari tergelincir.. Pada waktu sore hari terutama sesudah shalat Ashar dan pada waktu sebelum terbenam matahari. Pada awal malam, terutama sesudah shalat Maghrib dan shalat ‘Isya’. Pada waktu habis bangun tidur tengah malam hingga masuk waktu shalat Subuh. Pada waktu berada dalam majlis-majlis pertemuan. Di segala waktu-waktu yang dituntunkan syara’ untuk berdzikir. Waktu sela antara dua khutbah.
