O Canto do Tiê-sangue, que tem o nome científico de Ramphocelus bresilius,
que significa do (grego) rhamphos=bico; e koilos, këlis,
kelas que quer dizer côncavo; e do (latim) bresilius,
referente ao Brasil ou seja significa “brasileiro de bico côncavo”.
O pássaro Canto do Tiê-sangue é também conhecido popularmente por nomes como sangue de boi,
canário baeta, chau baêta, tapiranga, tié fogo, tié piranga, tié sangue,
tié vermelho e tiê-sangue. Ele é da família Thraupidae, sendo encontrado exclusivamente no Brasil,
desde a Paraíba, passando por Bahia, Santa Catarina e Rio Grande do Sul, incluindo o leste de Minas Gerais.
O Tiê é considerado o pássaro Canto do Tiê-sangue símbolo da Mata Atlântica.

Essa espécie tem porte mediano, pesa cerca de 31 gramas e mede 19 centímetros de comprimento,
quando bem cuidado no cativeiro este pode viver até 30 anos. A espécie apresenta dimorfismo sexual,
sendo que as características do macho são de ter uma plumagem num tom vermelho intenso,
as asas e a calda pretas e próximo ao bico tem uma faixa branca reluzente.
Estas características só são obtidas quando o Tiê Sangue atinge a idade de 2 anos,
as fêmeas não são tão atrativas, possuindo uma plumagem parda.
Costuma frequentar comedouros de parques, praças e residências,
adora viver em capoeiras, florestas, restingas e também em hortas de verduras e plantações de sementes.
