Nama lengkap beliau ialah Imam Abdul Husain bin al-Hajjaj bin Muslim bin Kausyaz al-Qusyairi an-Naisaburi. Dia dilahirkan di Naisabur tahun 206 H. Sebagaimana dikatakan oleh al-Hakim Abu Abdullah dalam kitabnya “Ulama’ul Amsar. Imam Muslim adalah penulis kitab syahih dan kitab ilmu hadits. Dia adalah ulama terkemuka yang namanya tetap dikenal sampai kini.
Kehidupan dan Pengembaraannya
Kehidupan Imam Muslim penuh dengan kegiatan mulia. Beliau meran-tau ke berbagai negeri untuk mencari hadits. Dia pergi ke Hijaz, Irak, Syam, Mesir dan negara-negara lainnya. Dia belajar hadits sejak masih kecil, yakni mulai tahun 218 H.
Dalam perjalanannya, Muslim bertemu dan berguru pada ulama hadis.
Di Khurasan, dia berguru kepada Yahya bin Yahya dan Ishak bin Rahawaih. Di Ray, dia berguru kepada Muhammad bin Mahran dan Abu Ansan. Di Irak, dia belajar kepada Ahmad bin Hanbal dan Abdullah bin Maslamah. Di Hijaz, berguru kepada Sa’id bin Mansur dan Abu Mas’ab. Di Mesir, belajar kepada ’Amar bin Sawad dan Harmalah bin Yahya dan berguru kepada ulama hadits lainnya. His full name is Abdul Imam Husayn ibn al-Hajjaj bin Muslim ibn al-Qushayri Kausyaz an-Naisaburi. He was born in Nishapur in 206 H. As stated by Abu Abdullah al-Hakim, in his book "Ulama'ul Amsar. Imam Muslim is the author of the book syahih and the science of hadith. He is a prominent scholar whose name remained unknown until now.

Imam Muslim life full of glorious events. He meran-tau to various countries to seek hadith. He went to the Hijaz, Iraq, Syria, Egypt and other countries. He learned hadith from a young age, which began in 218 H.
