Semasa dalam kandungan, kedua orang tuanya meninggalkan Mekkah menuju palestina, setibanya di Gaza, ayahnya jatuh sakit dan berpulang ke rahmatullah, kemudian beliau diasuh dan dibesarkan oleh ibunya dalam kondisi yang sangat prihatin dan seba kekurangan, pada usia 2 tahun, ia bersama ibunya kembali ke mekkah dan di kota inilah Imam Syafi’i mendapat pengasuhan dari ibu dan keluarganya secara lebih intensif. imam syafii
