A coleiro-do-norte é conhecido também como coleira-do-brejo-do-amazonas, gola, pintada (Amapá),
patativa (Pará), patativa-do-pará (Piauí) e patativa xadrez (Ceará).

pode ser chama de “papa-capim” acompanhada de algum outro adjetivo. Sporo é semente e,

Características
Mede entre 10 e 11 centímetros de comprimento e pesa entre 10 e 14 gramas.
O macho é preto-brilhante nas partes superiores, com a garganta branca,
cuja tonalidade se estende para cima, nas laterais do pescoço, formando um colar,
por vezes incompleto. Possui ainda uma faixa preta no peito,
duas “barras” brancas bem distintivas nas asas, sendo que a segunda pode ser reduzida,
e as demais partes inferiores brancas. A fêmea e o filhote são marrom-oliváceos,
mais claros nas partes inferiores. O canto lembra o de Sporophila caerulescens,
sendo entretanto mais prolongado.
